February 12 marks the start of the new lunar year, which begins with the second new moon after the winter solstice. It's also the new moon that is closest to the beginning of spring, thereby giving it the name of Spring Festival -- heralding the imminent arrival of spring and the earth's return to life after months of dormancy.
