My son swings between being completely in the moment and desperately wanting to be outside of it. I suppose we all fall somewhere on this spectrum, and maybe this feels especially pronounced as a young person in the modern world with minimal agency over what happens to us.

This perspective has made me empathize with my son's frustration and also served as a reminder to myself to not be in a rush to mentally check out of the moment. It only comes once. There is only now.
