The Moment
Does every moment need to be improved on?
Does every moment need to be improved on?
Tibetan Buddhist nun Pema Chödron said that "one of the deepest habitual patterns that we have is to feel that now is not enough." To look at life with the lens to criticize, to find fault -- even with the intention of promoting good -- is to live life with unease.
While I think it's true that we can look close to us and see how things can be improved upon, but it's also important to see that the moment as a teacher. Is the teacher showing us how our thoughts are veering in a hopeless direction? Is the teacher showing us an opportunity to actually do or say something? Or is it just asking us to enjoy it? Each moment is different, but it doesn't have to be better than what it is.
